The Roseau Health Team, in collaboration with the Environmental Health Department, the Health Promotion Unit, and officers from the Forestry and Extension Divisions of the Ministry of Agriculture, recently held an informal yet impactful outreach initiative aimed at educating farmers about vector-borne diseases such as dengue and leptospirosis.
The engagement sessions took place directly in farming communities, where health professionals and agricultural officers connected with farmers in their daily environment. Through these on-the-ground discussions, critical information was shared on how to identify, prevent, and manage illnesses spread by vectors like mosquitoes and rodents.
“Information is giving out; communication is getting through,” said a spokesperson for the initiative. “One of the most effective ways to reach people is to meet them where they are.”
The collaborative effort highlights a people-centered approach to public health education, ensuring that vital health messages are delivered in a relatable and accessible manner.
