President of the Dominican Chess Federation Nigel Francis intends to reach the minds of Dominicans who is interested in playing chess.
Recently, Francis emerged victorious is the national chess competition and plans to represent Dominica well.
“As the President of the Dominican Chess Federation I want us to continue spreading the game across the island, continue trying to reach the minds of any individual who is curious about the game and who wants to improve their ability,” he said in a press statement
Francis further stated how ecstatic he is to be the National champion of Dominica.
“It has been long coming. I’ve been looking forward to it since I started playing chess at the age of 14 and started to take a heavy interest into the game. Practicing a lot, reading a lot, just developing my skills overall. “
He stated that one of the things he puts into chess is resilience and a fighting spirt as growing up into struggles in his community, Fond Cole. He grew up in Virgin Lane where he learned and played chess.
“It has some hard times. I always put a resilient and fighting spirit into my chess so anyone who plays me will tell you that even if they beat me it is very difficult for them to win because I always give you that challenge.”
The federation is looking for more players to participate so there will be more competition in next championship.
