Positive Antigen Cases to be considered confirmed case of Covid-19 as cases continue to rise in Dominica

On August 12 th 2021, National Epidemiologist Dr. Shalauddin Ahmed reported that the current
active Covid-19 cases in Dominica stands at 361. There are 255 positive antigen cases. At present, there are no Covid-19 related deaths.


Dr. Ahmed noted that PCR testing has been used as the gold standard to confirm Covid-19
positives because of its high sensitivity and specificity.


However, as of 13 th August 2021, antigen testing will be considered the confirmed case of Covid-Following discussions with PAHO, it was advised that 90% of positive antigen cases are
found to be positive PCR cases.

Accordingly, the total of 255 positive antigen cases will be recorded as confirmed Covid-19
cases from August 13th 2021. All positive antigen cases and positive PCR cases will be placed in
a government quarantine facility.


The public is urged to continue to adhere to the Covid-19 safety protocols.
