Earlier this month, the Ministry of Agriculture launched a food Security initiative in light of COVID-19 geared at backyard gardeners.
According to Agricultural Officer, Dr. Al Mario Casimir, while registration is still ongoing, so far there are over 1700 persons registered to participate in the initiative. He says seedling distribution will intensify this week and distribution will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and will be carried out by agricultural extension offices in the various districts.
Dr. Casimir reiterated that the initiative is not intended to be an economic pursuit but an attempt to alleviate the immediate ‘farm plate’ needs of the country through a backyard initiative.
