Ninth E.O. LeBlanc Memorial Lecture to focus on Herbal Traditions

The Ninth Annual E.O. LeBlanc Memorial Lecture will focus on the use of traditional herbs in medicine, cuisine and spa treatments. The event, which forms part of the National Calendar of Independence Celebration Events, will also examine the significance of a back-to-nature approach in relation to health and wellness.

The theme for year’s activity is: “Herbal Traditions” and it will be hosted as a panel discussion. It is being mounted by the University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Dominica and the Cultural Division on Wednesday, 5 October, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at the UWI Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.

  • Mr. Renauld “Parker” Deschamps: “Herbal Traditions: Medicinal Use of Herbs”
  • Ms. Nathalie “Sister Nats” Charles: “Herbal Traditions: Use of herbs in food and cuisine
  • Dr. Martha Augustine: “Herbal Traditions: A Pharmaceutical Perspective of Cannabis”
  • Ms. Terri Henry: “Herbal Traditions: the use of traditional herbs in cosmetics and therapeutic spa treatments” 

The E.O. LeBlanc Memorial public lecture series focuses on cultural themes as a celebration of the life and work of Edward Oliver Le Blanc, Dominica’s first Premier. He was devoted to culture and was an avid reader and poet.

Previous presenters of this lecture series have been Dr. Alwin Bully, Dr. Irving André, Professor Hazel Simmons-McDonald, Mr. Vladimir Lucien, Hon. Alix Boyd-Knights and Dr. Lennox Honychurch.
