New Bill Removes Union Protection From Health Workers

New Bill Removes Union Protection From Health Workers

Former President of the Dominica Nurses Association(DNA), Nurse Rosie Felix, is of the opinion that the proposed Hospital Authority Bill exposes Health Workers to victimization.

She says, “It is a right of workers to be represented by Union and when we put people on contract especially in the public service that is recipe or that is an invitation for the union to leave and as current staff move out and new staff come in, without Union representation that’s going to be a big issue there”.

According to nurse Felix, while the Dominica State College is an example of an institution where persons are in contract and are represented by a union, it was difficult for them to have that representation when the Act governing the college was being established.

Nurse Felix says further that the Bill also takes away current employment benefits that are established in law for Health Workers.

Nurse Felix is hopeful that the bill will be amended.
