PPQ has confirmed the presence of the Giant African Snail (Achatina Fulica) in the Jimmit area. To date the Giant African Snail was confined to the North (Paix Bouche and environs) and Stockfarm/Bellevue Rawle areas.

The Unit has undertaken a quick response to this confirmation, by engaging in a rapid surveillance and baiting exercises from Wednesday and has already planned community wide outreach activities for distribution of information and support materials and undertaking nocturnal surveillance.

Persons residing in Jimmit are encouraged in the meantime to assist the Unit by undertaking their own surveys within their immediate backyards and enclosed spaces and most importantly reporting the sighting to the Division of Agriculture Plant Protection and Quarantine Unit within the Botanic Gardens at telephone numbers 266-3807 or 266-3802
