MoBGEANFS facilities the 2nd Validation Workshop on Agriculture Disaster Risk Management Plan for the Farming Community

Over the past 2 years, support has been provided in developing the capacities of Government and communities in strengthening resilience by integrating gender responsive approaches in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), and livelihoods under the UNDP implemented Strengthening Disaster Management Capacity of Women in the commonwealth of Dominica and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana project.

The Ministry of Blue and Green Economy, Agriculture and National Food Security (MoBGEANFS) in collaboration with Food an Agricultural Organization and the United Nations Development Programme has developed the Dominica Agriculture Disaster Risk Management Strategic Plan 2020-2030 (DADRMSP).

The 2020-2030 draft plan addresses key hazards and vulnerabilities in the agriculture sector that represents a threat to sustainable socio-economic growth and development, and long-term peace and prosperity in Dominica. Building resilience to disaster and climatic risks is essential to have a healthy agriculture sector able to support rural population, produce food and contribute to national development and attainment of the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

As such the MBGEANFS will be conducting two validation workshops of the (DADRMSP). The first workshop aims to gain feedback for the updated version of the Plan from the public sector and private sector in two separate sessions. The second aims to review and validate the inputs made to the ADRM by all stakeholders including the public/private sector and community/grassroots level.

The key objectives of these workshops are:

1. For key national stakeholders so they gain a greater understanding of the ADRM Plan and to clearly define their roles for the implementation of the ADRM plan.

2. To sensitize stakeholders on the gaps, challenges and opportunities in gender in disaster risk management in agriculture.

3. For stakeholders to brainstorm and identify gender inclusive activities for the ADRM.

The United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) cordially invites you to the validation workshop number 2 on Thursday 16th June 2022.
