The Marigot Community Tourism Committee recognizes the increased risk for drowning and near drowning incidents around the Easter Season. As a result, the organization wishes to encourage all to exercise caution when at the beach and other large bodies of water that present the risk for drowning.
Most recently we have heard and in some cases witness the loss of lives and of loved-ones across the nation and right here in our community, we continue in our thrust to develop our Aqua Club program which aims to provide the relevant training techniques and skills to our people in an effort to prevent loss of life and to help develop our human resource capacity for skilled swimmers.
The Easter season comes with the opportunity for many adults and children to access several waterways including the beach front and our nation’s rivers, for recreation and relaxation and so we believe that every precautionary measure must be taken.
Heightened attention must be paid to children, especially those who cannot swim, as they can wander away from groups if on Trips near waterways and find themselves in pools, rivers and the sea without the knowledge of their accompanying parents or guardians.
We encourage community members and nationals across the Island to be vigilant and safe during this season, a happy Easter to all.
