Maria Carbon Of Portsmouth Awarded CCCUL Long Service Award

The Central Cooperative Credit Union Limited (CCCUL) held its 13th Annual General Meeting on Thursday. The Cooperative took the opportunity to recognize a distinguished employee as well as some volunteers who have served on the board or various committees over the years.

Maria Carbon (affectionately known as Ms.Irma of Portsmouth was presented with the Long Service Award for her many years of dedicated service at the Portsmouth Branch. Carbon began her stint at the institution in 1978 as a Junior Clerk. She held various positions including Senior Clerk/typist, Accountant, and Branch Manager until her retirement.

Cleo Watts, former Treasurer and present Manager of the Credit Union was one of the volunteers recognized for her service. The others were Laurina Vidal-Telemaque, Desrie Steadman, Genevieve Guye, Derek Beazer, Desmond Warrington, Rogers Larocque and Elma Williams.

The Cooperative also made donations to institutions within the communities in which they operate. Donations were given to Pre Schools, Primary and Secondary Schools, Community Hostel Inc (formerly Grotto Home), the Center where Adolescents Learn to Love and Serve(CALLS), the Portsmouth Home for the Aged, the Education Trust Fund, and the Dominica Association for Persons with a Disability.
