Launch of the DCSLL Valentine Telemaque Scholarship for Leadership

The League has launched a third full scholarship award named in honour of Valentine Telemaque , a dedicated stalwart of our credit union whose unwavering commitment and numerous contributions have significantly shaped our institution, making this scholarship a fitting tribute to his legacy.

Valentine Telemaque’s tenure with our cooperative movement and the teaching fraternity was marked by exceptional service above self, leadership, and dedication to growth and development of the movement.

It is our hope that by recognizing his legacy through a scholarship, it will serve as an acknowledgment of Service, honoring his contributions and keeps his memory alive within the movement.

That it serves as a beacon of Inspiration for future generations, encouraging volunteers and staff members to embody the values Mr. Telemaque stood for, and of course that it provides financial assistance to deserving students, aligning with Valentine’s commitment to community development, education, innovation and excellence.

President of the League Dr. Damien Dublin said that “it is with great pride and heartfelt gratitude that we launch the The Valentine Telemaque Scholarship for Leadership. Val as he was affectionately referred to, embodied true leadership, commitment, dedication, and excellence in service, making an indelible impact on our movement”

League General Manager, Phoenix Belfield highlighted that “this scholarship is a tribute to Mr. Valentine Telemaque’s unwavering contributions to the cooperative movement and Dominica as a whole and a testament to the values he championed. It aims to inspire and support future leaders to share his passion for excellence, innovation, leadership and service. Today, we celebrate Mr. Telemaque’s remarkable legacy and by investing in the bright future envisioned for our youths.”

This scholarship will be open to primary school students who are members or children of members of our credit union affiliates. Preference will be given to students demonstrating leadership, community service, and academic excellence. The Student must be placed with the top 100 performing students at the Common Entrance Examination.

The scholarship will be a full scholarship for Secondary School education in Dominica covering all school tuition fees, all books and stationery, a uniform allowance of $250 in the 1st and 3rd years, all examination fees and a commuter’s allowance will be paid if the student resides outside ½ mile radius of the secondary school she will be attending.

This application is completed entirely online and the candidates will be required to also submit a personal statement detailing their academic achievements, leadership experiences, and community involvement.

The Valentine Telemaque Scholarship for Leadership adds to the two other highly coveted scholarship awards of past Stalwarts currently available at the credit union League: the Sister Alicia de Tremerie scholarship for Need and the Joffre Robinson Scholarship for Merit. The Deadline for submission for the three scholarships and bursaries is June 28 and online submissions for the Valentine Telemaque Scholarship for Leadership on June 30, 2024.

The Dominica Co-operative Societies League Limited is the apex body for cooperatives in Dominica and has been serving the movement for almost seven decades.
