John Blanchard Calls On Labourites To Put Country Before Party

At an electoral reform rally on Saturday evening, treasurer of the Concerned Citizens Movement, John Blanchard issued a call to Labourites far and wide to do the right thing; to put country before party and support electoral reform.

He said, “Ensure that your children inherit the same democratic systems that our forefathers fought and died for. Send a clear message to the prime minister and the Labour party that they must respect the law of the land; that they must use the state’s resources prudently and account to you”.

Blanchard believes that our country is at a crossroad and that our democracy is under attack. He said that when a Government refuses to implement electoral reform even after advice from overseas missions; when a Government refuses reform even after evidence that such reform has happened in sister island and when a prime minister takes the advice of a senior counsel who says that his (the prime  minister’s) re-election legacy will be affected by reform; we are in a bad place.

Blanchard says that the issue of electoral reform is not a partisan matter and so calls on all Dominicans to support electoral reform.
