Joe Biden sworn in as 46th president of the United States

Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States on Wednesday afternoon. He pledged to unite the country and he is calling on the American people to end the uncivil war.

Biden stressed the need for unity in his speech. According to him, “I know speaking of unity can sound to some like a foolish fantasy these days, I know the forces that divide are deep and they are real,” he said. “Our history has been a constant struggle between the American ideal that we’re all created equal and the harsh ugly reality of racism, nativism, fear, demonization.”

“This is our historic moment of crisis and challenge — and unity is the path forward,” he said.

Biden further pledged to defend the nation and fight the multiple crises facing Americans. “Together, we shall write an American story of hope not fear, of unity not division, of light, not darkness,” he said.

Kamala Harris was also sworn in and  made history as Vice President of the U.S.
