Following this new declaration, President Maduro has set up a temporary government on the state of Essequibo and has given three months notice to mining and oil companies to vacate their businesses from Essequibo.
The president has appointed Major General Alexis Rodríguez Cabello as the governor of Guyana’s Essequibo region on Tuesday evening. The Venezuelan government also declares that it will create a High Commission as well as a National Assembly for the approval of the organic law for the defense of Guyana’s Essequibo.
It is noteworthy that just last week the International Court of Justice prohibited Venezuela from taking any action that would interfere with Guyana’s control over Essequibo region.
Hence this new development is in direct contravention with what was ordered by one of the highest courts internationally.
Emo news will continue to monitor this development.
