Gunfire Exchange Between Police And Illegal Entrants

The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) has arrested and charged 9 men including 1 Haitian national in connection with an incident which took place  on Thursday 28, January, 2021.According to the Police, a routine land and sea patrol in the Wesley/Marigot area led to the interception of an open keel vessel with six individuals, including one Haitian national.

Police Chief Lincoln Corbette said, “In the process of intercepting the vessel, there was an exchange of gunfire. The vessel attempted to evade the Police and a chase ensued. The boat was ditched at the beach at Marigot, an area called Sandy Bay. A search was conducted on the vessel and a large quantity of 12 gauge ammunition and an unspecified sum of cash was recovered and seized”.

He continued, “Two individuals were arrested on the beach. One appeared to have sustained a gunshot injury to his face. The boat was seized and was taken to the marine unit at Woodbridge Bay in Roseau where it is being processed”.

“Ongoing investigations into the same incident led to the arrest of one individual in Roseau who appeared to have sustained multiple gunshot injuries to his face, mouth and left hand”, Corbette explained.

The Police Chief made it clear that 9 individuals have been arrested in connection with this incident.

The individuals involved are being held at the Government quarantine facility in Roseau and Portsmouth.
