Government to Fast-Track Titles for Beneficiaries of State-Funded Homes

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has announced a move to accelerate the processing of titles for recipients of government housing.

Speaking during Monday’s parliamentary session, Housing Minister, Honourable Melissa Poponne- Skerrit said the Ministry will appoint a full-time state attorney tasked with expediting the issuance of titles.

“Cabinet recently approved the hiring of a full-time state attorney, and she will be stationed in the Ministry of Housing. Mr. Speaker, she has one job to do. Her sole purpose is to process all the land titles for our government-built homes,” the Minister revealed.

“This is huge, Mr. Speaker. This is a big deal, because for years, the issue of titles of government-built homes has been a hot topic in Dominica,” she added.

She noted that the Government has remained focused on delivering safe and secure homes to over 2000 beneficiaries, ensuring stability and relief for those displaced by recent disasters.

“But now I’m proud to say that we have found a solution to move the title process forward faster and more efficiently.

“We are unlocking real value for our people, Mr. Speaker, and this is what progress looks like. We have made promises to the people, and we are delivering on our promises. We’re not just giving homes. We’re giving power to the people. We’re giving independence to the people. We are giving them a future,” she stated.

The Housing Minister’s remarks came during the debate on a credit facility from the International Development Association (IDA), which will, in part, finance the first phase of the relocation of residents from Petite Soufriere, San Sauveur, and Good Hope to Castle Bruce, as well as from Campbell to Warner.
