During a cabinet tour to the second town of Portsmouth on Wednesday, the Prime Minister revealed that plans are well underway to replace Ross University.
” We have in fact signed an agreement with an investor to start a medical school and also other programs. We will sign the lease agreement with them very soon but we have already given them access to the property about three months ago, so they are doing repairs and fixing the air conditioning units, getting the classrooms ready”.
The Prime Minister said that the new investor has already employed local Dominicans and faculty and are in the process of recruiting students. He said that soon the developer and Government will make a public announcement.
Skerrit notes that the Government is not happy for themselves as a Government but for the many persons who benefit from the presence of a University on the island, especially the apartment owners with mortgages. The deal involves a five-year lease with the option to purchase the campus after the five years would have relapsed.
