Girl Guides Association Celebrates 90th Anniversary

The Girl Guides Association of Dominica was established in 1929, through the efforts of Alice Honychurch and Annie McIntyre. It is a voluntary non-political and non-religious organization. It is also the largest organization of girls and young women in Dominica with a membership of over 700.

To commemorate, the 90th Anniversary, under the theme, ‘CONNECTING WITH THE PAST, MOVING FORWARD WITH DETERMINATION’, a mass was held at the Portsmouth Roman Catholic Church. The main celebrant was Fr. Elveau Augustine.

After mass, a brief ceremony was held. The President of the Girls Guides Association, Josephine Lewis gave a speech and Her Excellency, Clara Savarin cut the ribbons and Ms. Valencia Webb, Chief Commissioner of the GGAD gave the vote of thanks. To culminate the activity, the uniformed groups paraded the streets of Portsmouth.
