FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR DOMINICA EXTENDED TO 6PM

A Flash Flood WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS ALREADY OCCURRING OR WILL OCCUR DURING THE WARNING PERIOD.

The Meteorological Service has extended the

·         Flash Flood Warning for Dominica

 

·         Until 6:00p.m. this evening

 

·         An area of disturbed weather associated with a tropical wave is has been generating moderate to isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms along with gusty winds across Dominica throughout this morning. Radar imagery indicated pockets of moderate to heavy showers to the south of Dominica with the potential of spreading northwards across the island during this afternoon.  

 

·         Rainfall amounts of up to 2 inches or 50mm have been recorded over sections of the island for the morning period. The grounds across Dominica are saturated. Therefore, additional activity could produce flood conditions in a short period.

 

·         As a result, the FLASH FLOOD WARNING has been extended for Dominica up to 6:00p.m. this evening. People in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks are advised to continue to be vigilant and to exercise extreme caution during the period.

 

·         Be on the lookout for fast rising waters. Motorists and pedestrian should not attempt to cross flooded road or water-ways.

Moderate to rough seas are also expected in areas of showers and thunderstorms. All sea users and residents near the coast are therefore advised to exercise caution.

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation and provide the necessary updates.
