ERC Hosts Historic Virtual Forum: ‘May 29th, 1979 to 2025 — Milestone or Millstone?’

To mark the 46th anniversary of May 29th, 1979, when Patrick Roland John’s government fell, the Electoral Reform Coalition (ERC) will host a virtual discussion titled “May 29th, 1979, to 2025: Milestone or Millstone”, at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday 29th May 2025 via Zoom.

Panelists include former Prime Minister Oliver Seraphine, former Agriculture Minister Athie Martin, former UN Ambassador Crispin Gregoire, former St Mary’s Academy principal Brother Egbert Germaine, UWP General Secretary Nicholas George, ERC Chairman and Dominica Freedom Party’s Johnson Boston and Dr. Irving Andre.

Moderated by Alvin Thomas, the discussion will analyze Dominica’s situation leading up to May 29th, 1979, and compare it to current conditions. The event will highlight the role of civil society organizations like trade unions, churches, businesses, farmers, women, and youth groups.

The ERC will honor many stalwarts of May 29th, including Philip Timothy, a fatality of that day. The event aims to be educational and informative, especially for the youth.

The discussion will be held via Zoom and streamed on Facebook, YouTube, and possibly live on radio stations. It begins at 7 pm on Thursday, May 29th, 2025.

The ERC is a non-governmental, non-partisan organization dedicated to free and fair elections and good governance.
