English Was Not My Best Subject Says Winner Of Lacoste Dominica Essay Competition

Kervia Sorhaindo, a second year student at the Dominica State College (DSC) is the winner of an essay competition sponsored by Locoste Dominica on the topic, ‘How has COVID-19 impacted your  life in Dominica?’

Sorhaindo says that she saw the Lacoste Dominica first annual scholarship poster being advertised a few times on social media, and took the opportunity to submit an entry  since she “had a coronavirus lockdown story…No one expected this global pandemic would have changed lives worldwide and it felt good to talk about my experience, even though it was not a bizarre one”.

Sorhaindo says, ” I was elated and surprised on hearing the exciting news that I had won the essay competition against many others.Throughout high school English was not my go to subject because of the constant quizzes, essay writing and projects”.

However, she says that all the hard work she put into the subject helped her to inprove her skills and receive an excellent mark in the English CSEC examinations.

“My winnings gave me hope that my self-improvements are working out in my favour and I want to encourage individuals to never give up on themselves even though the road may be rough; God will definitely see you through your own lane at the right pace.”

Sorhaindo expresses heartfelt thank you to the organizers of the Lacoste Dominica Scholarship for giving back to Dominica and also to EmoNews for showcasing this scholarship so that other Dominicans will gain interest into giving back to their country and also so that other students could take part in the essay competition next year.

Congratulations to Kervia and all the best as you continue to work on improving yourself.
