The Dominica Social Security(DSS) began its week of activities on Monday 1, February with a church service at the Besthesda Methodist Church.
The service featured beautiful renditions from a choir made up of members of staff of the organization. Dominica’s very own Lady of Song, Ophelia Marie received a standing ovation for her delivery.
Methodist minister Rev. Mona Christmas-Frazer called on those charged with the running of the DSS to be good stewards; to rejoice in the attitude of excellence that they have served with for the last 45 years; to remain steadfast in service and to remember great sacrifice and service of those who laid the foundation.
Director of the DSS, Mrs. Janice Jean-Jacques Thomas in her remarks said that 45 years of existence in any organization is remarkable and so much so for the DSS which is a main pillar of Dominica’s social protection system. She cited the positive impact of DSS on the moves of Dominicans especially some senior citizens who rely on Social Security pension as their only source of income.
The week of activities being celebrated under the theme ’45 Years of Social Partnership and Protection’ marks the 45th anniversary of the DSS.
