Dominican to participate in over 60 International Masters Cricket World Cup Competition 2024.

Veteran Somerseter Stanley Paul has been selected by the Cricket Canada Masters Council (CCMC) as part of its 18 member squad to represent Canada in the 2024 Over 60 International Cricket World Cup competition, scheduled to take place in Chennai India from February 18, to 4th March 2024. Paul, who currently resides in British Columbia, has been described as a Right-arm medium fast bowler from Dominica in the Caribbean.

The 63 year old Paul who visits Dominica periodically hails from the village of Layou and has been a dedicated member of the Somerset Sports Club of St. Joseph, having represented his club in the domestic Cricket league here for a little over three decades.

Somerset wishes to congratulate Stanley Paul on what the club considers to be a phenomenal achievement, for having made it on the World Stage. The club submits that this should be used as an inspiration, not only to Somerseters, but also to young cricketers in Dominica on a whole, as this could only be attained through hard work and dedication. Somerset wishes Paul every success during this over 60 Veteran World Cup Cricket Competition.

The Tournament which will include a number of former test and first class players of the cricketing world will involve 14 teams with matches being of 45 overs duration. Canada will be placed in ‘Pool A ’along with New Zealand, England, South Africa, USA, Zimbabwe and the Rest of the World. While on the other hand, ‘Pool B’, comprises the West Indies, Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India and Wales. Canada will meet USA in their first match of the tournament which bowls off on February 18, 2024.

By virtue of this accomplishment, Stanley Paul has made his family proud, he has made the community of Layou proud, he has made Somerset and St. Joseph proud and he has made his country, the Nature Island of Dominica Proud. Good luck Paul.
