The Dominica Public Service Union has taken some important decisions relating to its staff to address the CORONAVIRUS pandemic. While demonstrating support and empathy towards its employees and their families, the union is calling on all other employers to do likewise.
Staff members, especially those using public transportation to work and those with small children will report to work from 9am – 3pm. This will help in reducing the risks posed in traveling on crowded vehicles and is also aimed at allowing sufficient time to finalize arrangements to secure care and supervision of children at home and to facilitate them in returning earlier to their homes.
In the event that any staff member is quarantined the period will be treated as special leave and he or she will be paid full salary/wages.
Upon request, staff will be allowed to work from home where possible.
The union will consider, on a case by case basis, the granting of vacation leave In advance to members who may not have sufficient acquired days at the time.
In its effort to limit crowds accessing some of its services at any given time, the DPSU is encouraging patrons, for example those visiting its restaurants to make orders in advance, as much as possible.
The union will conduct weekly review of its decisions on all the aforementioned matters
