The AGM, which was attended by 18 members and stakeholders from across the island, provided a comprehensive review of the Federation’s activities over the past year and served as the platform for the highly anticipated election of the new Executive Committee.
In a closely contested race for the presidency, Carlton Morvan was elected as the new President of the Dominica Chess Federation, securing 10 votes over Ian Dorival, who received 8 votes. The remaining executive positions were uncontested, and the following officers were officially appointed:
- Vice President – Edgar Berridge
- Treasurer – Nigel Francis
- Secretary – Daniel Scotland
- Public Relations Officer (PRO) – Liudmila Domennova
- Assistant Secretary/Treasurer – Romel Laudat
- Technical Assistant – Larry Thomas
In his acceptance remarks, President-elect Carlton Morvan expressed gratitude to the members for their confidence in his leadership and outlined a renewed vision for the Federation. “My goal is to increase chess membership and improve the quality of the experience for all Federation Members. I am ready to do the work!” he stated.
Outgoing President Ian Dorival, along with the previous executive members were thanked for their service and dedication to the Federation’s growth during their term.
The AGM also featured presentations of the Annual Activity Report and Financial Statement, as well as a strategic discussion on upcoming initiatives, including plans to organize FIDE-rated tournaments and implement a national school chess program.
The Dominica Chess Federation extends its appreciation to all members, partners, and the UWI Open Campus for their support in making the AGM a success. Special thanks goes out to Ms. Korlita Hamilton, Assistant Secretary of the Dominica Olympic Committee, who played a key role as a neutral party in ensuring that there was a transparent and fair election process by serving as the officiator of the election.
