Dominica Celebrates Tourism Awareness Month with the Reintroduction of the Tourism Youth Congress

Roseau, Dominica – As part of the annual Tourism Awareness Month celebrated each May, the Discover Dominica Authority, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association, continues to raise public awareness and engagement in tourism, with a particular focus on the nation’s youth.

This year marks the reintroduction of the Tourism Youth Congress, an exciting public speaking competition designed to give secondary school students aged 14–17 a platform to share innovative ideas on tourism development. The event will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Alliance Française de la Dominique.

Participants will deliver a 3-minute presentation on one of the following key topics:

  • Smart technologies, sustainable practices, social inclusion
  • Leveraging heritage tourism for development
  • Connecting the Caribbean with sustainable transport
  • Digital transformation in tourism

In addition to their prepared speeches, each student will respond to a mystery question, with final scores determining the overall winner. Visual aids may be used to enhance their presentations.

The grand prize is the prestigious title of Junior Minister of Tourism, which includes the opportunity to represent Dominica at the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s Caribbean Tourism Youth Congress during the State of the Industry Conference in October.

Adding to the excitement, tourism ambassadors Breanni Winston and Sanjay Robinson will be officially pinned during the Congress ceremony, further emphasizing the country’s commitment to youth leadership and tourism development.
