Bellevue Chopin native, Dr. Natasha Maxime-Esprit has recently completed her post graduate specialist studies in Endocrinology at Cuba’s National Institute of Endocrinology in Havana.
Dr. Maxime-Esprit is the daughter of Pastor Francois Maxime and Merlyn Maxime and past alumnus of the Dominica Grammar School. Dr. Maxime-Esprit pursued Associate degrees in Biology and Spanish at the Dominica State College and in 2009 ventured on a 7 year journey to earn a degree in general medicine at the Romulo Gallegos University of Venezuela as a scholarship recipient from the government of Dominica.
In January of 2018 she decided to begin another journey to achieve the personal and professional goal of becoming an Endocrinologist, specialty dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of hormonal/metabolic disorders such as Diabetes Mellitus, Thyroid disease, Obesity, Metabolic Syndrome, Polycystic Ovarian Sydrome, Infertility, Pituitary Tumors among others.
Dr. Maxime-Esprit attributes her success firstly to God as she believes that He is the author of her life and will perfect all that which He has started in her. She is also grateful for the sacrifices made by her parents and family which allowed her to endure a 10 year medical journey to achieve her goal. And also the Government of Dominica for creating opportunities to pursue higher education.
She says that her primary goal is to contribute to the wellbeing of Dominicans who suffer from endocrine diseases and by extension the Caribbean region as Endocrinology specialists within the region are few in number.
Emonews congratulates Dominica’s very own Dr. Natasha Maxime-Esprit, another Woman in Science who rock!!!!
