Dominica was awaiting the launching of the Prime Minister’s wife following the previous launching of DLP candidates. Mrs. Skerrit did not disappoint.
Mrs. Skerrit took the stage to thank the people of Dominica for the love and appreciation she received as the wife of the dear Prime Minister. She recounted her efforts at service after Maria and in preparing children for school by donating school supplies. She mentioned some fishermen who received fishing boats and supplies after Hurricane Maria.
She listed some of her development plans to make Roseau the best city in the region inclusive of a rat baiting programme; a more resilient Roseau with comfortable housing; the continuation of the Roseau Enhancement Project to create a green resilient city powered by energy with underground cables, traditional buildings alongside new, mixed-use business centres, cafes, outdoor recreational spaces and freely available Wifi; a new face for the public market, modern attractive housing units with views of the waterfront; and incentives to the private sector to alleviate the issue of parking and for transportation services to run until late at night to connect the city with rural communities.
Mrs. Skerrit is of the view that there is still much to be done in Roseau and she guarantees that if elected she will accomplish these. She said, “I want to help to expand your businesses. I want to bring more development. I want to lift Roseau Central up. I want Roseau Central to be the best constituency in this country”.
To those who think she has ulterior motives for entering the ring, Mrs Skerrit said, “I am stepping forward to build a more resilient Roseau with comfortable housing, a sense of community pride and a place where people can use their skills, their ideas and talent to build a better life for themselves and their families”.
Melissa Skerrit will contest the Roseau Central seat against UWP candidate Glenroy ‘Soso’ Cuffy.
