Division of Culture Continues Promotion Of Heritage

The Division of Culture has once again added to its anthology of books geared at promoting and preserving Dominica’s cultural heritage.

On Monday 2, November, the Division released two publications, ‘Heritage Dominica IV’ and ‘Dominican Expressions Vol 3’.

Heritage Dominica: A Collection of Old Dominican Photographs IV captures scenes, scenery, people and  events from political figures such as the late Dame Mary Eugenia Charles, Sports teams, agricultural artifacts and carnival.

While Dominican Expressions Vol 3: An anthology of prize winning short stories and poems writes the stories of Dominica from the perspective of Dominicans themselves.

Minister for Culture, Hon. Roselyn Paul said the publications promote Dominican creativity and provides an avenue to document aspects of Dominican life for future generations. The Division also launched a poster depicting the National dress for both men and women to encourage the wearing if the real authentic creole dress.

Chief Cultural Officer, Raymond Lawrence explained that the National wear for women, the Wob Dwiyet and Jupe may be made from madras or pretty florals and silk cloth and encourages person to use the National wear at appropriate times throughout the year.

The books are available for purchase at the office of the Cultural Division at the Old Mill Cultural Center and at Jay’s Bookstore.
