COVID-19 STATEMENT BY DR LAURA ESPRIT, OFFICER IN CHARGE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER

Good day to you the listening and viewing public. We wish to inform you that since the last press briefing on
December 21, 2020, hosted by the Ministry of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment, there have been 10 additional cases.

6 of the 10 cases are males, whilst the other 4 are females, with an age range between 30 to 73 years old. Of the 10 new cases, 5 were detected upon arrival at the DouglasCharles Airport – Health Screening Facility, whilst the other 5were detected on day-5 PCR testing, at Quarantine Facilities. All ten were imported cases, quarantined from the date of arrival, and subsequently admitted to the COVID Isolation Unit for management and close monitoring.

From the total of 106 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the island, 98 persons have successfully recovered, with 0 deaths, which is a proud achievement for us all. Therefore, at present, there are 8 active cases.

On the heels of a new year, The Ministry of Health and by extension the GOCD, takes the opportunity to appeal to all
Dominicans and prospective visitors, to remain vigilant and adherent to all the established protocols, especially in view of the unfolding situation of the COVID-19 Virus, at the shores of our sister islands.

We applaud you the public for your compliance to the protocols and public health measures during the fight against the COVID19 Pandemic, and we look forward to your continued support and commitment in the coming months.
