Two top teams from the Eastern communities, stretching from Castle Bruce to Petite Soufriere, will meet on Sunday for the ultimate football battle royal.
There is juicy history in the mix which makes the match-up all the more interesting.
MMCE WE United FC is an offshoot of East Central FC. In 2017, three of the club’s executive members and 20 players broke ranks to form a competing club- WE United FC. Since then a friendly, yet competitive rivalry has grown between the two sides providing football lovers with thrilling encounters in charged atmospheres on game days.
This Sunday’s encounter between the two sides is expected to draw fans from Delices in the South East to the Kalinago Territory in the East. There is also great interest among football enthusiasts around the rest of the country who vow that a football game featuring the new, vibrant MMCE WE United FC is a must- see. Indeed, the meteoric rise of the new club, its passion for the game and structured approach to management, fundraising and promotion have made it one to look for on the football circuit. Added to that is a cadre of young, skillful players with an insatiable hunger for winning.
The club is advancing to the Quarter Finals round of the DFA’s First Division League for the first time and now sits comfortably at the top of the rankings in the group stage with 16 points and 16 clear goals. East Central FC also has 16 points and 8 clear goals. Sunday’s match up will determine who tops group 2.
The stakes are high. It is a local rivalry played out on the national football stage. Who will emerge victorious in this bout? Who will win bragging rights going into the quarters?
