Mahaut, Dominica: August 15, 2024 —- Children and young people in the community of Mahaut and surrounding communities are being offered a unique opportunity to learn guitar and song-writing skills in a Summer Music Camp from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd August, 2024, at the Mahaut Primary School.
The Summer Music Camp which is being organized by the recently formed Mahaut Arts Foundation Inc and the Parliamentary Representative for the Mahaut Constituency, Hon Cassannni Laville, will provide lessons in guitar-playing and song-writing for children between the ages of nine (9) and seventeen (17). The week long guitar-playing programme will be facilitated by well-known Dominican musician Julien “Julie” Martin with the support of Mahaut native Julien Riviere, while legendary singer and songwriter of Belles Combo and Cadence-lypso fame, Cletus “Halibut” Abraham will lead the sessions on song-writing.
The Summer Music Camp for children is the roll-out of a long term plan by the Mahaut Arts Foundation Inc to introduce music education and to facilitate the process for a major revival of music in Mahaut and among music enthusiasts in the area. The programme will include plans for the setting up of a Music and Arts Centre, the promotion of music education, providing spaces for rehearsals and performances by local musicians, supporting arts and cultural programmes and initiating other efforts to better reposition Mahaut as a major location for the development of growth of the arts in Dominica.

The Mahaut Arts Foundation Inc’s is an inclusive arts and music education nonprofit organization on the Commonwealth of Dominica. Founded in 2021, we exist to support, develop and uplift the artistic talent, especially in the area of music, in Mahaut and neighbouring communities, and to uplift, grow and develop the arts and culture in Dominica. This will include providing a space for artists and musicians to develop, produce, receive training and education and to be able distribute their music and art with assistance in creating viable creative outputs.
