Following an admission by Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo that the Ali administration intends to hire more women for its ongoing part-time jobs initiative, a regional recruitment service is commending the move.
“This is exactly what international agencies like the IDB have been calling for, so it’s great to see that it’s being taken seriously and acted upon,” said Joseph Boll, Caribbean Employment Services Inc. CEO.
Caribbean Employment Services Inc. is a market-leading digital talent acquisition service that aims to connect the top talent from the Caribbean with hiring managers, HR professionals and decision-makers in companies both within the Caribbean as well as abroad.
Boll noted that not only have organizations like the IDB called for more of an effort to be made by employers to hire women, but that members of the public around the world are paying more attention to diversity.
Caribbean women occupy a unique position when it comes to working in the Caribbean. They simultaneously perform the most labour — whether paid or through unpaid domestic work; but are also the most underpaid and face significant gaps in workforce participation. Despite generally attaining higher levels of education, they are often employed in lower-paying jobs while men are more often hired for managerial positions and other high-earning roles. This while the IDB found “a positive association between a larger share of women in the workforce and higher propensities to innovate within firms and to cooperate between firms on innovation.”
Caribbean Employment Services Inc. previously stated its capacity to help private businesses ensure they hire more women, and consider them for management, executive or other high-level roles. Now, Boll says that “it’s fantastic to see the government of Guyana leading by example.”
Additionally, Boll reminded other employers that they can utilize professional talent acquisition services like those offered by his company to seamlessly follow suit in adding more women to their staff complement.
“A private business may not have the same resources as the government, but they do have a resource they can use to meet diversity and equality goals through Caribbean Employment Services Inc.,” he said. “It can be time-consuming and tedious to make the efforts on your own, but our dedicated team of HR specialists and wide talent pool can help businesses make the right hire quickly, effortlessly and efficiently.”
