Construction of an international airport will begin sometime with the near future as the contract is set to be signed before May 31, 2021. This is according to Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit.
The prime minister said that the agreement was revised by Cabinet and will be signed by the Government of Dominica soon.
He said, “The Cabinet met Wednesday 19, May, 2021 to consider the draft principle agreement for the construction of the Dominica International Airport. I must report that Cabinet, with some amendments, approved of the agreement for the construction of the international airport for Dominica. And that agreement will be signed between the Government of Dominica and Montreal Management Consultants to develop and construct the international airport, utilizing the funding mechanism of the Citizenship by Investment Programme”.
He continued, “I believe this is an important step for the country. We’ve all since the 40s, 50s, and 60s been seeking to build an international airport for our country and now we are well on our way to achieving this dream for Dominica. So we look forward to signing this agreement by the end of May 2021, so that the associated next steps can be advanced towards the realization of our international airport”.
The Prime Minister called on all citizens to play their part to realize this dream. He said that he is ‘very humbled to be the leader of the country at this time, with the hope of realizing the largest infrastructural project in the history of our country’.
