In honor of my platform: Fostering humanity through human services ” as a Miss Dominica Contestant, I had always planned to do something special for the vagrants because I see the conditions that they currently have to live with. They walk the streets of Roseau asking people to feed them or to give them money to buy something and some people will turn them down and this really hurts my heart.
It hurts my heart seeing them this way. My goal is to feed the vagrants who live in Roseau & environs and hopefully expand to other communities. I would like to take this opportunity to sound a call for sponsors to come on board to contribute so that I could be able to more. It is my dream to one day get them off the streets because feeding them alone is not going to help.
For future development of the program I aim to achieve three objectives:
Objective: 1. To do an assessment in the community of Portsmouth before I decide to have a second meal programme
2. To have another meal in Roseau program on a larger scale.
3. To have a dinner for the vagrants
4. To get the government involved
My first meal programme was definitely a success, my aim was to feed 20 vagrants but I completed 19. It was a bit difficult to find the vagrants on Easter Saturday morning but through determination, we were able to meet 95% of our goal.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Fresh Market for their continued support of me on my journey. Without their assistance, the first meal programme would not be a success. I would also like to extend a big thank you to the other Miss Dominica contestants for 2019 and the reigning Miss Dominica for her support in the first ever meals programme by Anick.
