Minister with the responsibility for Tourism in Dominica, Hon. Denise Charles, has reassured the public that air access to Dominica will not be a problem even with the impending demise of the Leeward Island Air Transport (LIAT).
LIAT which has been the major means of air transportation to Dominica is facing liquidation.
The minister said, “The unfortunate news of the liquidation of LIAT caused some anxiety in the market but I want to make all Dominicans and all potential travellers to Dominica including Dominican nationals abroad that the gap that LiAT has created has also created an opportunity for many other agencies…Rest assured that air access to Dominica will not be limited, in fact, it may actually expand”.
According to her, Government has received about five proposals which are presently being assessed. Once the assessment process is completed an announcement will be made.
The Prime Minister of Dominica has said that Dominica will support any new entity that replaces LIAT.
