A Flash Flood WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS ALREADY OCCURRING OR WILL OCCUR DURING THE WARNING PERIOD.
The Meteorological Service has issued a
· Flash Flood Warning for Dominica
· Until 12 noon today
· An area of disturbed weather associated with a tropical wave is currently affecting Dominica. Moderate to heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms began affecting the island during the early morning. Reports indicated that some rivers are already swollen and flooding has been reported over sections of southern Dominica.
· The forecast is for unstable conditions to linger across the island through to early Wednesday with possible rainfall amounts of up to 2 inches or 50mm. The grounds across Dominica are saturated due to the recent rainfall event. Therefore, additional activity could produce flood conditions in a short period.
· As a result, a FLASH FLOOD WARNING has been issued for Dominica up to 12 noon today. People in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks are advised to continue to be vigilant and to exercise extreme caution during the period.
· Be on the lookout for fast rising waters. Motorists and pedestrian should not attempt to cross flooded road or water-ways.
Moderate to rough seas are also expected in areas of showers and thunderstorms. All sea users and residents near the coast are therefore advised to exercise caution.
The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation and provide the necessary updates.
