The CEO of a regional recruitment service is lauding ongoing efforts to support women’s employability, skills development and empowerment as the Caribbean continues recovering from the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Women have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic around the world, and it’s hit hard in many Caribbean countries, where it’s not uncommon for women to be the primary or sole caretakers of their families,” said Joseph Boll, CEO of Caribbean Employment Services Inc. “Even worse, they often make up a large portion of the informal sector, which remains vulnerable to external shocks. Programmes that acknowledge the specific plight of women in this economy and help them to better provide for their families are to be commended.”

Boll’s comments come as the Women’s Empowerment Programme (WEP) of St. Vincent & the Grenadines, in partnership with the government of Taiwan (Republic of China), saw a new cohort of successful graduates who now possess skills to secure gainful employment. Taiwan ROC has launched similar programmes across the Caribbean, not just for women but for multiple employment programmes. From St. Lucia to Belize and more, the nation has been helping training, education and employment efforts in several Caribbean countries as of late.
Now, it is on the verge of launching a job placement programme for youth in St. Vincent & the Grenadines, which Boll says will bear profitable fruit in the months to come. While there has been some speculation surrounding the Republic of China’s involvement in such matters, the Caribbean Employment Services Inc. CEO maintains that residents on the ground are nevertheless benefitting from the support of their future employability.
