A High-Surf Advisory is issued when breaking wave action poses a threat to life and property within the surf zone.
A Small-Craft Warning means that seas equal to or greater than 3metres (10ft) are forecast to affect the marine area.
- A low pressure system in the central Atlantic has been generating long period swells in the waters of the Lesser Antilles. An increase in swell period and swell height is expected during the next 24 hours.
EXPECTED CONDITIONS:
- Swells up to 3.0 metres (10.0ft) tonight on the northern and eastern coastlines, peaking to near 12.0ft on Friday;
- Swells up to 2.0 metres (7.0ft) from tonight along the western coastline;
- These conditions may become more adverse at times of high tide.
IMPACTS:
- Large waves and dangerous rip-currents will create unsafe conditions for small-craft operators and beach-goers;
- Swells may impact coastal communities and roadways close to the shoreline;
- Possible erosion of beaches and coastal property;
- Larger ships may be unable to berth at port.
