A HIGH SURF ADVISORY AND SMALL CRAFT WARNING WILL BE IN EFFECT FOR DOMINICA FOR NORTHERLY SWELLS

Issued at: 12:00pm, Thursday 8th December, 2022

Valid from: 6:00pm, Thursday 8th December, 2022

Until: 6:00pm, Saturday 10th December, 2022

A High-Surf Advisory is issued when breaking wave action poses a threat to life and property within the surf zone.

A Small-Craft Warning means that seas equal to or greater than 3metres (10ft) are forecast to affect the marine area.

  • A low pressure system in the central Atlantic has been generating long period swells in the waters of the Lesser Antilles. An increase in swell period and swell height is expected during the next 24 hours.

EXPECTED CONDITIONS:

  • Swells up to 3.0 metres (10.0ft)  tonight on the northern and eastern coastlines, peaking to near 12.0ft on Friday;
  • Swells up to 2.0 metres (7.0ft) from tonight along the western coastline;
  • These conditions may become more adverse at times of high tide.

IMPACTS:

  • Large waves and dangerous rip-currents will create unsafe conditions for small-craft operators and beach-goers;
  • Swells may impact coastal communities and roadways close to the shoreline;
  • Possible erosion of beaches and coastal property;
  • Larger ships may be unable to berth at port.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
