Harian “Manchile” Henry hails from the community of Grand Bay and is considered to be a son-of-the-soil.
He has had the privilege of being taught by great men such as Mr. Yosef Benjamin Jochannan and Ivan Van Sertima. Since then, he has gone on to lecture in several venues including St. Lucia, St. Thomas and Dominica. He hosted a radio show on Liberty FM in St. Lucia, in 2020. Mr. Henry firmly believes in passing on knowledge of our past to younger generations to ensure posterity. Hence the reason he frequently visited schools such as the Pierre Charles Secondary School, in Dominica.
Since most of the elders have transitioned from this earth he felt it was incumbent for him to compile this gem. He started working on the manuscript in ____? And after much delay and hurdles with publishing “A Brief History of Grand Bay” is finally here.
Grand Bay has a rich history and culture. Its people have always been proud of where they come from. The community is known for producing scholars, academic giants, cultural stalwarts, pioneers of multiple art forms, formidable leaders and change agents. It is in this spirit that “A Brief History of Grand Bay” was written, to remind not only Grand Bayrians, but Dominicans everywhere of who we are and how far we have come.
Mr. Henry is grateful for the support he has received from his family, friends and community throughout this journey. He extends special thanks to his former Computer Instructor Ms. Merkwan Paquette.
The cover design was done by Sarama Rolle and book layout by M’ Pire Ink Publishing.
The book will be formally launched on Sunday 7th November, at Old Fort, Grand Bay.
It will subsequently be available on Amazon.
