International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th of March, each year. As part of this year’s celebrations, APP highlights the work of the Dominican woman, especially those who are on the frontline in the efforts to make our nation a more progressive one.
Several women deserve recognition. Every woman does because women are involved in shaping our lives every day. APP joins hands with women in Dominica and the world over in building a bridge of progress with a united sense of purpose for the entire global community.
The official observance of International Women’s Day began as the celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Since its inception in 1911, International Women’s Day celebrations have promoted a call to duty, and action for accelerating gender parity. This year’s theme is Choose To Challenge, and APP has pledged to challenge the systems which stand in the way of our nation’s progress.
In Dominica today, the woman continues to be a significant force for progress and a beacon of hope. The Dominican woman is a source of togetherness and equality. The Dominican woman adds value to our nation’s creed and remains resolute in defence of our children, women and men. Let us celebrate one another; let us join hands – woman to woman – to help defend our blessed land.
We see a Dominica where peace resides. On this International Women’s Day, it would be a good time to pause, to reflect, and to choose to make more meaningful progress. APP will continue to serve as vanguards of women’s right. We particularly focus on the rights of the less privileged women: those who are homeless, differently-abled, destitute, the financially disadvantaged and the underprivileged.
APP promotes greater participation of women in the Dominican political system, and we aim to lead by example. We call on the woman to take her rightful place in society.
