Sickle Cell Cares Foundation donates school supplies to the Goodwill Primary School

September is regarded as Sickle Cell Awareness month!  It is mostly celebrated in the United States through NGOs and various charities championing the cause for greater sickle cell disease awareness, education and research. This year, the Sickle Cell Cares Foundation is continuing its mission to engage the wider Dominican public through public sector partnerships and youth development.

In continued recognition of Sickle Cell Awareness month, the Sickle Cell Cares Foundation on Wednesday 16th September 2020, donated school supplies to the Roseau Primary School. The supplies included bags and assorted stationery (exercise books, pencils, rulers, erasers, sharpeners, crayons, and colouring books.

This donation was made in person the Principal and students of the Roseau Primary School by interns, who are members of the Sickle Cell Club Scheme program of the Sickle Cell Cares Foundation in partnership with the Dominica State College. It is hoped that these items will be beneficial to students who are most in need. President of the club stated; “This month as we focus on the sickle cell  disease The Sickle Cell Cares Foundation decided to give back to the community students who are not only affected by sickle cell disease but who have also been impacted by covid-19. We hope that this will go a long way in helping the students succeed.”

Fellow intern also present, Ms Amy Augustine stated this: “As a proud past student of the school, it was indeed a pleasant experience to donate the school kits to the Goodwill Primary School on behalf of the Sickle Cell Cares Foundation. The students were very polite and I am glad that our contribution was well received with words of gratitude and smiles that could be seen, even behind the masks.”
