Dominican manufacturers were encouraged to take advantage of the Caribbean Basin Economic Recovery Act(CBERA) to increase exports to US markets.
According to Rachel Myers of the United States Embassy in Barbados, the act was first passed in 1984 and has no expiration date. It provides for the duty free entry of most goods from 17 Caribbean countries, including Dominica, into the USA. This initiative was put in place to support Caribbean economies.
Myers made these comments at the recently held National Symposium of the Dominica Manufacturers Association.
