DPSU May Begin Salary Negotiations with Government Soon

President of Dominica Public Service Union and seasoned trade unionist, Steve Joseph says that Government has proposed a date of August 15 to begin salary negotiations.

While he commends the Government’s budget proposal to increase mobility for teachers and nurses however, he says that the union is interested in the well being of all its members.

“The union has always espoused that when you’re dealing with salaries, it’s a measure that’s supposed to benefit every public officer. In other words, while we welcome suggestions that affect sections, we believe when you negotiate for salaries it’s to address a bigger picture.”

Joseph says that the union is also pleased that a committee will be established to review the minimum wage. According to him, the law provides for salary negotiations every three years.
