The 4-H clubs of Dominica observed 4-H week in the first week of June under the theme ‘4-H Creates An Opportunity For All. The National 4-H Local Leaders Association went over and beyond in planning a meaningful week of activities for Clubites.
National Coordinator, Mishell Abraham said, “A scheduled week of activities was circulated among schools with 4-H clubs encouraging clubites to engage in activities that emphasize the 4-H Slogan “LEARNING BY DOING.”
The week of activities began with three Zonal Church Services at Roseau, Castle Bruce and Portsmouth. The church services provided the opportunity for students to participate by saying prayers, and doing special performances. Many of the songs were backed up by musicians from the St. Mary’s Academy.
Abraham described some of the activities which included
1) Green Cake Decorating
2) Public Speaking on the topic “NO FARMS NO FOOD”
3) Fruit Day
4) Agriculture Skills Day and
5) 4-H Corner Exhibition.
She said, “All of these activities were geared towards bringing about awareness to everyone on how the 4-H Program is a very diverse program that creates countless opportunities for the growth and development of youth.
We owe the achievement of this year’s activities to the many schools, principals, teachers, local leaders, parents, community resource persons, the Roman Catholic Church and clubites who put in a great effort in ensuring the fruitful execution of the activities.
We hope if given the opportunity that next year’s week of activities will continue to inspire growth and advancement in our clubites”.
Abraham issued an encouragement to all. She said, “We encourage the public to visit, like and share our Facebook page “Dominica 4-H Programme” to keep abreast about the many positive activities our clubites are engaged in daily”.
Public Relations Officer(PRO) of the St. Mary’s Academy Che Gittens said, “It is important for 4-H’ers and young people in general come together and worship the Lord and also to work together to enhance the environment that’s why we try to encourage young people to get involved in 4-H clubs and to do whatever it takes to better themselves”.
