WAVE Raises Concerns Over Garbage In Roseau River

The Waitukubuli Advocates for Viable Environments (WAVE) is voicing concern over the disposal of garbage in the Roseau River.

Chairman of the WAVE, Fr. Franklyn Cuffy says, “We are concerned over the impact that this is having on the environment. I remember when we took the Girls Guide on this very river and we were able to drive all the way to the river bank and presently this is not possible. This indiscriminate dumping or even storing of waste is negatively affecting our environment”.

According to Father Cuffy, the accepted practice is to have containers on site for garbage disposal. He said further, that the Environmental Health Services Act makes provision for the authorities to intervene in these situations.

WAVE is especially concerned about the garbage in light of the fact that we are approaching the Hurricane season and the threat of flooding posed by the garbage.
