Dominica has seen an increase in bush fires over the past month and according to official reports from the Fire and Ambulance Service, they have responded to over 200 fires to date.

Fire Chief Josiah Dupuis said, “It’s not just about the frequency of calls but the fact that you are likely to have to respond to multiple calls at the same time…it does put tremendous strain on our resources, from personnel to our equipment and yes we do need additional equipment. There is always going to be that need”.

The fire chief also said that even with more equipment, the department might still not be able to respond to every fire.

However, he anticipates that their needs will be met soon.
