Hurricane Preparedness Week 2020

Hurricane Preparedness Week 2020

As part of Hurricane Preparedness Week 2020, the Office of Disaster Management (ODM) has put in place some activities despite the limitations brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Program Officer(Ag) at the ODM,Viola Pascal, says that a national online training will be held on Thursday to improve situational awareness during disasters. Also, Saturday will be dubbed ‘Community Clean Up Day’ where the general public can go out and begin cutting overhanging branches and unblocking gutters among other things in an effort to prepare neighborhoods for the likelihood of a hurricane.

Pascal said that persons must remember to keep practicing social distancing even while assisting in the community clean up and that preparedness plans must now include COVID-19 guidelines.

Hurricane preparedness Week seeks to sensitize the public on Hurricane Hazards and the need to be prepared at all levels of society.
