The Girl Guides Association of Dominica (GGAD) facilitated a Sensay & Mask-making workshop from July 14th-19th, 2025 at St. Mary’s Academy, aimed at preserving and promoting one of our treasured cultural traditions and supporting our Miss Teen 2025 winner Ms. Gabrielle Esprit’s platform.
The Workshop brought together about 15 Girl Guides from different units, offering hands–on experience in crafting Sensay costumes — an iconic element of our heritage, especially during the Carnival season. Under the guidance of skilled artisans and cultural leaders, John Riviere, Theresa and Eustace Hector ; the girls learned about the history, significance and techniques involved in Sensay and Mask-making. This initiative not only celebrates our culture, but also ensures that future generations can carry on this tradition with pride. The event saw enthusiastic engagement, fostering both community spirit and cultural pride. In addition, we are grateful to all the businesses, and individuals who either supported us or donated materials.
The Workshop ends on Saturday 19th July, 2025, with a closing ceremony from 12:00-1:00 p.m.
